Art Techniques & Concepts
Throughout the History of Art you can see how different famous painters develop a personal style and change how we see the world on a canvas. For example, Vincent van Gogh is famous for his emotional energy and his thick, swirling brushstrokes. He moves his hand in fast circles to create movement in the beautiful night sky or fields. In contrast, Jackson Pollock completely rejects traditional brushes in his abstract expressionism to try different methods. He uses creative pouring and dripping techniques to splash colorful paint directly onto a giant floor canvas. Next, Pablo Picasso changes the rules of reality by using flat, geometric silhouettes in his cubist masterpieces. He breaks human figures into simple squares, triangles, and lines to show different perspectives at once. Finally, Salvador DalΓ explores the human mind by painting the strange, dreamlike imagery of his own surrealist dreams.
